AYUB HASSAN
Ayub was only 17 at that time when his life was taken away. He was an active boy who liked to play football and was planning on learning to drive when he was 18. Ayub had dreams of going on to study to become a barrister one day.
On the night Ayub died I was in so much pain and that was by far the worst night of my life. The boy who killed Ayub was 15 at the time of his murder and he received 15yrs in jail and a life lesson. Ayub’s siblings have felt the loss of their brother dearly and losing my child has left me heartbroken and shattered our family.
Since the loss of Ayub I have held an event in the local community which a lot of teenage boys attended with the goal of trying to convince them to drop their weapons and listen to their parents and positive figures around them. I hope to go on to host more events like this and hope more people from the communities around will come together and try to help these young men in their lives.
I am bilingual and speak Somali and Italian if any families for whom this is their native tongue and may find themselves in a similar situation who need help communicating you can reach to me.
