JODIE CHESNEY

Jodie was an extremely kind and giving person and she will be greatly missed. She was a beautiful, well liked, fun young woman who judged no one and loved everyone. As a little girl she was very shy, but her confidence grew from strength to strength as she got older.

She loved college and was studying Psychology, Sociology and Photography at Havering Sixth Form. Her family, friends and her dog Woody meant the world to Jodie and there was never any hidden agenda, ever. She wore her heart on her sleeve and her infectious laugh would light up any room.

Jodie achieved the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver award and was just a few weeks away from completing her Gold! She was also an active scout member and volunteered on many different projects including the Great Runs 5k and supporting local scouting activities in Greater London North East for the younger Beaver and Cub sections. Jodie also gave her time and energy, volunteering at the Cub and Scout section of the 4th Barking and Dagenham Scouts where she touched the lives of other young people in her own inimitable way. This gives you an insight into her personality and of how she cared selflessly for other people.

She was learning to play classical music on her piano, also her extracurricular work on photography was a big passion and she would frequently go into London to take photos.

Jodie was simply a beautiful person whose life was cut short just as she was blossoming into a wonderful young woman.

JODIE CHESNEY FOUNDATION

My name is Peter Chesney, father of Jodie Chesney who was brutally murdered on the 1st March 2019. This was an unprovoked attack and has completely devastated our family. Jodie was a kind and giving person and will be greatly missed.

Due to the horrific nature of Jodie’s murder and subsequent deaths around the country relating to knife crime, I am setting up a charity in Jodie’s name. With the help of a team of very experienced people who have worked for many years in professional youth services, I truly believe that we can make a difference to the culture of knife crime in this country.

The Jodie Chesney Foundation will develop and provide prevention, intervention, education and support to parents, carers, teachers and young people (including those that may not engage in mainstream support). We will be promoting the reduction and long term eradication of fatal violence by knives and help to relieve victims of the effects of violence within the community.

We have full support from local leaders of Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge and Havering councils and we have already met with government leaders such as Sadiq Khan and Lib Peck who are keen to work with us.

We are at the early stages of our journey and will be updating our website regularly so be sure to check out the ‘NEWS‘ section.
